Examination Process

Examination Process

Office of the Controller of Examinations

The Office of the Controller of Examinations was established in November 2019 following the conferment of autonomous status to the institution. The CoE office is entrusted with planning, coordinating, and overseeing all examination-related activities. Its responsibilities include the announcement of the academic calendar, preparation of question papers, conduct of Continuous Internal Assessment (CIA) and Semester End Examinations (SEE), online valuation of answer scripts, declaration of results, printing and issuance of grade sheets, and recommending eligible candidates to the University for the award of degrees.

Semester End Examinations are conducted at the end of each semester—during November/December for odd semesters and April/May for even semesters. Candidates who are unable to clear any course(s) in the regular examinations are permitted to appear for the supplementary examinations.

Attendance Requirements and Detention Policy

  • A student shall be eligible to appear for the semester-end examinations if the student acquires a minimum of 75% aggregate attendance of all the courses for that semester.
  • Shortage of attendance in aggregate up to 10% (securing 65% and above but below 75%) in each semester may be condoned by the College Academic Committee on genuine and valid grounds, based on the student’s representation with supporting evidence.
  • A stipulated fee shall be payable for condoning of shortage of attendance as notified on the respective college website.
  • Two hours of attendance for each theory course shall be considered if the student appears for the Continuous Internal Examination of that course.
  • Shortage of attendance below 65% in aggregate shall in no case be condoned.
  • Students whose shortage of attendance is not condoned in any semester are not eligible to take their semester-end examinations of that semester. They get detained and will not be promoted to the next semester. Their registration for that semester shall stand cancelled, including internal marks. They may seek re-registration for that semester in the next academic year.
  • A student fulfilling the attendance requirement in the present semester shall not be eligible for readmission into the same semester.

Academic Promotion Rules — B.Tech. (Regular)

Students must satisfy minimum credit requirements in addition to attendance criteria to progress to the next academic year:

  • 25% credits from I & II semesters to move to III semester.
  • 25% credits up to III/IV semester to move to V semester.
  • 100% credits up to V/VI semester to move to VII semester.
  • All the students shall register for all the 164 credits and earn all the 160 credits. Marks obtained in all the 160 credits shall be considered for the award of the Grade.

Academic Promotion Rules — B.Tech. (Lateral Entry)

Students must satisfy minimum credit requirements in addition to attendance criteria to progress to the next academic year:

  • 25% credits up to III/IV semester to move to V semester.
  • 100% credits up to V/VI semester to move to VII semester.
  • All the students shall register for all the 123/124 credits and earn all the 120 credits. Marks obtained in all the 120 credits shall be considered for the award of the Grade.

Question Paper Pattern

The Semester End Examination (SEE) shall be of 3 hours duration and will carry:

  • 70 marks for regulations MLRS-R19 and MLRS-R20.
  • 60 marks for regulations MLRS-R22, MLRS-R24, MLRS-BT25, MLRS-MT25, and MLRS-MB25.
  • The syllabus of each theory course is divided into five modules, with equal weightage allotted to each module for the purpose of setting the question paper.
  • The question paper consists of two parts:
    • Part-A: Short-answer questions
    • Part-B: Long-answer / descriptive questions

Evaluation System

  • All answer scripts for CIE and SEE are centrally evaluated. Immediately after each examination, answer scripts are scanned and secured through an auto-generated coding mechanism to maintain confidentiality.
  • CIE Evaluation: Conducted by internal faculty members.
  • SEE Evaluation: Conducted by both internal and external examiners from reputed institutions.

CBT Examination

The institute conducts a Computer-Based Test (CBT) for regulations MLRS-R19, MLRS-R20, MLRS-R24, and MLRS-BT25. This facility is provided for students who are unable to attend CIE examinations due to medical or genuine reasons. Students can register for the CBT by paying the applicable fee.

Revision of Regulations & Curriculum

The Institute may, from time to time, revise, amend, or change the regulations, scheme of examinations, and syllabi as deemed necessary. Upon approval by the Board of Studies (BOS), Academic Council, and the Governing Body, such changes shall be binding on all stakeholders of the Institute.
